How to Win at Roullete
Roullete (French for “little wheel”) is a casino game of chance that has offered glamour, mystery and excitement to gamblers since the 17th century. The game is easy to learn, but it also provides a surprising level of depth for serious players who wish to optimize their chances of winning.
Whether it’s the color red or black, odd or even, high or low, roulette bets are placed on individual numbers or groups of numbers. The player’s job is to correctly predict which number or type of number the ball will land on when the dealer spins the roulette wheel. The payouts for these bets vary depending on the number or type of bet selected, and can be quite high.
The wheel consists of a solid, slightly convex wooden disk with metal compartments or pockets around its rim. Thirty-six of these compartments, painted alternately in red and black, are numbered non-consecutively from 1 to 36. On European-style wheels there is a green compartment labelled 0 while on American tables there are two additional green pockets marked 00. The whole wheel rotates around a central axis until the ball and wheel come to rest with it in one of the compartments.
A bet is made by placing a chip on the betting mat. The dealer then places a marker on the number that won and pays out the winnings. If a number wins, the player’s wagered chips are still their property and may be bet again on the next spin.
Roulette is the least popular casino game in America, drawing far fewer gamblers than slots, video poker, blackjack or craps. But it’s a staple at Monte Carlo and other European casinos, where it’s known for drawing big crowds.
While some people believe that roulette can be beaten by devising an effective strategy, there is no way to overcome the built-in house edge of this game. Unless you have exceptional luck, the best you can do is minimize your losses and maximize your wins by playing within your bankroll. To do this, try to wager on groups of numbers instead of individual digits and start by making bets that pay out more often. You can then increase your bets as you win more. When the time comes to cash in, simply place all your roulette chips on the table and tell the dealer you want them replaced with normal casino chips. You will then receive a new set of chips with the value you indicated when you deposited them.
